Man sentenced in case of LI boy shot in eye during burglary
8:48 PM EDT, October 29, 2007

MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) _ A second man was sentenced to prison Monday for his role in a home invasion that left a 9-year-old boy shot in the eye and partially paralyzed. Rasheed Watson, 22, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison in the botched burglary that sparked a wild shootout in an Inwood home. "I believe this man belongs in jail for the rest of his life," John Henry Romano, now 10, said in Nassau County Court during the sentencing. "I would still be the same if it weren't for him."
The boy is now blind in one eye and unable to run or move his left arm. Authorities say Watson and two others broke into the home where John Henry was visiting. Watson and a second man were armed with handguns, and the trio ordered the people in the house to get on their knees and hand over valuables, authorities said. The homeowner heard the commotion from a back room and came out with a licensed handgun. The owner exchanged gunfire with the burglars, hitting Williams in the face, leg and hand. Watson fired, striking John Henry in the eye and injuring a 22-year-old man. Watson, of Patterson, N.J., was found guilty in September of robbery, assault and burglary charges. In July, Brooklyn resident Tyreek Williams was sentenced to 21 years in prison after pleading guilty to the same charges. Police are still seeking the third man.
